Box 25 Boise, ID 83707 mcmule@msn.com Dear Chairman McDermott: I am writing to express opposition to the employment of the leg hold trap in Idaho. This trap – – which requires no warning sign – – inflicts inescapable pain and suffering to any child, hiker, dog, wolf, cat or other creature whose foot lands upon it. Because leg hold traps can only be opened by bolt cutters, rendering aid to a trapped victim is almost impossible. I urge you to take action to restrict use of this trap as soon as possible. Thank-you for your time and attention in this important matter.
Sincerely…”

Stop using these inhuman devices. Wolves are an important part of the ecosystem
This is the worse thing to happen to Wolves. Idaho, Montana and other states who want to kill the wolves are nothing but killers.
Using traps and other ways of killing is bad. Besides God created them.
Now I am going to give you some information. When you kill the wolves and have none of them left, you are inviting other predators to come out. Those who were afraid to get near a wolf pack.
Why don’t you all wake up. Wolves hunt the sick, weak, lame, and the old of the wildherds. This helps to keep the wildherds healthy. Wolves also help keep the trees and grass going by keeping the wildherds moving.
Wolves are Mother Nature’s MOST PERFECT guardian. The keep the ecosystem in check. By removing them we endanger the environment’s delicate balance.
No , I’m afraid you are missinformed. When we setteled the wild lands of America , the populations of wildlife were in a balance because the land was wild and free . Populations of all ungulates were very high . No roads to cross , no hunters , no deseases from domestic live stock. Wildlife could support a population of super predators. In actuality those conditions do not exist in the contiguous US. They exist in interior Alaska and in BC , and wolf over population is in fast a problem in these areas. While I believe the wolf has a right to exist , it must be held in balance with the population of prey species which they feed on. The wolves will not eat something else while the elk ,deer and moose are in decline . The numbers are out of balance now and we will loose entire species of wildlife. The wolves are already at a state they are starving to death in the Teton Wilderness area , because they have killed and eaten all the prey animals. So I hope that you will realize that we can not let Idaho fall into this state. Next comes the economic impact of the predation of domestic livestock aka you dog ,cat ,horse ,goat , child, etc….
Mr. Spedale,
Wolves has lived side by side with ungulates for ages and never caused a species into extinction. The notion that “we will lose entire species of wildlife” has only proven to occur by the worst species on earth….man. No, Mr. Spedale, wolves have not “killed and eaten all the prey animals.” Perhaps you believe in the unintended effects of leg traps as well, such as killing other wildlife and pets (in the case of “Maggie, the border collie). These leg traps are brutal, inhumane, and torturous…you should know that. What exactly does “numbers are out of balance” mean? Who decides how many species live or die, and how? Hunters kill more ungulate species than any wolf so overhunting/sport hunting is the number one cause of ungulate decline. Should humans “be held in balance” because our population is too high? The numbers of ungulates are out of balance because of man’s doing, not wolves. We must elminate leg traps!
The leghold trap is composed of two metal jaws, powered by high strength springs, which slam shut on an animals paw when triggered. The initial impact of the steel jaws causes injury, but the majority of damage is caused as the animal struggles to break free.
Within the first 30 minutes of capture, a trapped animal can tear her flesh, rip tendons, break bones, and even knock out teeth as she bites the trap to escape.
Watch this video showing the damage other traps can cause against innocent family pets and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMECC-_wx3o&feature=channel_video_title
So, please tell me…how am I “misinformed?”
Leg hold traps are a good idea to help stop the unchecked proliferation of the wolves .
