Ridiculous reactionary politics, lies, needs to be contronted head on.
“In the interests of political gains, lawmakers of Idaho are attempting to declare a disaster emergency which would include enlisting local law enforcement officers to eradicate wolf packs” says Writer Brian Ertz of The Wildlife News.
He adds, “The outright absurdity of the extreme reactionism that continues to threaten wolves can often seem too outrageous to be real. We hope that it’s just some marginal voice and that maybe by ignoring it, it will go away.
Wolf management in the Rockies is a very real culminating crisis prompted more from the imagination of zealots than from anything we can objectively quantify. Born uniquely in the minds of men more than in the actual behavior of wolves.
Unfortunately, the crisis is real – bounties are being proposed in state legislatures, Wildlife Services considered gassing pups in dens, citizens are being encouraged to defy federal law and to kill wolves in both Idaho and Montana.
It’s lawless, it’s absurd, it’s anti-rational insofar as it’s a response to a real condition prompted by wolves’ actual behavior … But it’s perfectly rational politically – thus far it has been rewarded politically by both anti-wolfers and implicitly by some pro-wolfers’ capitulation alike – it’s a paradigm that will prevail under state management of wolves should wolf advocates lose the effort to keep wolves federally protected – because the sad truth is that in the halls of state legislatures, reason will have no voice.” (http://wolves.wordpress.com/2011/04/01/wolf-fearing-id-lawmakers-want-emergency-declared/)
Wolf Preservation wants your responses! Please comment.
This is almost hilarius, comon, such a fuss for wolves? snt the ed of the world , the animals arent a trat but a bless, theyre a keystone to the echosystem, we need them, stop bablering nosenses about them. We ned to protect all wildlife.
Here in Oregon, the wolf haters are fear mongering and whipping up frenzy at the Capitol. The ‘hunters’ who are legislators and the Republicans are fueling it further.
One of the State Reps….GREG SMITH, went so far as to testify that wolves are ‘snatching’ children and he invited anyone who wanted to come and watch to let him know and he’d take them.
Then there are the ‘rancher’ (paid by the OCA) who are stating a deadly ‘tape worm’ that will kill humans and is carried only by the wolf. I provided testimony (written), showing the tapeworm in question is in domestic dogs and carried by sheep and sheep herding dogs. But it didn’t matter, it evoked FEAR.
Rep. Shaufler ranted from his chair on the Ag Committee that we need to ‘kill the vermin’.
Sen. Ferrioli is ranting about everything.
Sen. Boquist likens himself a soldier of fortune and wants to kill the wolves.
There are seriously sick in the mind people out there.
TOmorrow (Wed), two of the wolf bills will be voted to the House floor…they are trying (anti-wolf) to sneak them through.
So very sad.
Thanks so much for standing up and advocating for wolves. People like Greg Smith will do and say anything to delist wolves and eliminate them by any means necessary. You’re right; Anti-wolf groups/individuals are driven by greed, fear, hatred, misconceptions, and political gain. They cannot be reasoned with and spreading fear is their weapon. I know it feels hopeless, especially now, but voices like yours mean everything. I appreciate your comments about what Greg Smith, Ferrioli, and Boquist said. Can you share contact information for those particular Senators? I, among others, will let them know wolf advocates are not going away and continue to inform the public about real truth about wolves!
