The Wolf Preservation Blog is dedicated to being a web presence providing information, education and resources for the preservation of wolves. Started by Indiana-based wolf preservation activist Michael Heath, The Wolf Preservation Blog continues Heath’s lifelong dedicated to these often misunderstood creatures that too often elicit fear rather than awe.
The Wolf Preservation Blog serves as a gateway for the latest information, resources, legislation, programs and events in the area of wolf preservation.
Michael Heath is available throughout Central Indiana for informative and enlightening presentations on wolf education and preservation. Contact Michael through The Wolf Preservation Blog for more information!
Great site Mike!
Love the website Mike.
Some Native Americans look at the wolf as a sacred animal, and spiritual. Some still believe that the wolf can heal them.
Wolves are good for helping the environment by eating deer and elk. They help with keeping them from being over populated.
Great site, Michael! This is a great cause, we love all animals at Haunted Flower. 🙂
Thank you for visiting hauntedflowerreviews!
Thank you to the Wolf Conservation Center for teaching us the truth about wvleos and their valuable contribution to a healthy planet! Education is the key to advocating for wvleos in the future. We look to you, our experts, as the most important link in the growing chain of wolf and wildlife advocates across the nation.
You said it Arthur! EDUCATION is the most powerful tool wolf supporters can use. We cannot turn our backs on the way wolves, and other animals, are inhumanely treated. Harrassing our state representatives may be exhausting but there are other means. Start a wolf advocacy page, set up a booth/table at local library or school and pass out current information on wolves. These are just a few ways!
This is a great place to go to speak out for the wolf. I make and sign petitions to protect wolves on Care2, Change.org, GoPetition, and others sites like these.
I am upset with congress wanting to pass anti-wolf bills to take the wolves off the endangered species list. We need to fight for the wolf and be their voices.
Our Greater Yellowstone Ungulates are under attack by unchceked and sustainably recovered wolves and grizzlies. Our moose have almost completely disappeared, elk are only residing on private lands outside the forest and park. cow/calf ratios and reproduction rates for migratory elk habve reached critical levels. States need to be able to manage their own wildlife without the interference of the federal government and people who haven’t witnessed the devastation of our ungulate herds!
I just received my June/July 2011 issue of ‘Nature’s Voice’, published by the NRDC. Immediately my eyes went to the article ‘CONGRESS TO WOLVES: DROP DEAD!’ Here is are excerpts from the article:
‘The stealth attack on wolves was engineered by Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID) and Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT) and was approved by the leadership of both houses of Congress as well as by the White House. “It is a sad day for America when both parties unite behind the slaughter of an endangered species without any public legislative hearings or debates,” says Andrew Wetzler, director of NRDC’s Land and Wildlife Program…..
The must-pass budget bill in April gave anti-wolf forces the political cover they needed to cut a backroom deal in the dead of night. It’s the first time that Congress has ever removed an animal from the endangered species list. “Politicians should not be making decisions about which species deserve protection under the Endangered Species Act,” says Wetzler. “It sets a very dangerous precedent.”
Wolf control plans in Montana and Idaho alone could lead to the killing of some 900 of the animals.
As NRDC prepares for the next phase of this fight, our Montana office will be closely monitoring the states to ensure that they uphold their commitment to protect viable populations of wolves; and we will hold those states accountable.’
Great blog Mike. I was elated to get this from a friend on Facebook. I contacted Governor Kitzhaber’s office and sent him a fax regarding Oregon’s wolves. It is truly a heartening to see real leadership in a Governor rather than just pandering to the cattle ranchers. I is my fervent hope that someday, some fine day the states of Montana, Idaho and Wyoming will elect a governor that represents all rather than just the special interests of ranchers and hunters.
Thanks Rhonda! Yes, it’s about time a politician initiated a reward for those who actively try to co-exist with wolves using proper measures!
a wolf pack was along Cant Road within the city liitms in December, staring him down for several days as he delivered the mail by car. The closest animal was within forty yards. Timber wolves are abundant around rural Duluth.
Someone needs to speak up for the Wolves, to keep them off the endangered spieces list. They are great in population control of Deer and other game.
That’s right Michael! Wolf opponents claim they eradicate or deplete ungulate populations. While wolves are a contributing factor in certain areas, the main threat is combination of human hunting (especially for sport), disease, weather conditions, and other predators (coyotes, bears, ect).

Thanks Bob! Please keep sharing articles such as this. Much appreciated.
the threat of welvos is way over hyped and numbers are not even in the harvestable range yet they want to allow hunting welvos from a helicopter? go figure..If the numbers were in the harvestable range thats not acceptable to me, hunt them on the ground in an ethicle manner.
Yes, wolves are hunted by plane, which is difficult to watch. The animal is harrassed, exhausted, and not usually a quick kill. Some even pay money to charter these small planes and hunt them down for the thrill.

You’re welcome! Wow, all the way from Germany? Welcome friend!

Petitioners needed to help Yellowstone’s Wolves
I know of at least 173,500 signatures on various petitions to protect Yellowstone’s wolves. So, collectively we are “only” about 326,000 shy of a half million.
I would think that at least 500,000 signatures are needed to do justice in terms of reflecting actual public sentiment for Yellowstone’s wolves.
So, I ask for your kind help. Please, either circulate the petition I just started (see our Apr 16 FB post), or launch one specific for your organization.
Widespread public support for protecting wolves is out there! But that only matters if we can demonstrate it! Yellowstone is on the cutting edge in the fight for unexploited wolf populations (to this day we have none).
